Instead of always using the regular chutney and sambhar, You can try rava idli with any of these sides. Being a South Indian, idli is a commonly made breakfast in our family. It is important to use varieties of accompaniments to make it more flavorsome and interesting to eat.
1. Coriander Chutney
This is one of the most popular chutney used in South India along with rava idli. You can roast the coriander leaves in oil along with coconut and spices then temper with mustard seeds and curry leaves. This green chutney tastes yummy with rava idli. You can serve chutney with dosas and uthappams. You can also add ginger to enhance the flavour of the green chutney. This is often served with coconut and tomato chutneys to make it tricolor chutney.
2. Idli Podi
Another awesome combination of rava idli with idli podi. Apply Rava idli with ghee and toss in the idli podi to make it super delicious. It is made with lentils and spices in a powder format. You should roast the lentils with spices and grind them to a coarse powder to prepare the idli podi. Podi means powder in Tamil and Telugu languages.. It is also called as molagai podi in TamilNadu.
3. Coconut Chutney
This is another popular and most preferred chutney in South India. You can prepare with coconut pulp, green chillies and tempering with red chillies and curry leaves. This chutney is most commonly made in Andhra and Telangana. My little one’s favorite and i dont miss to make this atleast twice a week. Peanut chutney can be made in different ingredients while the key ingredient is the roasted peanut. You must roast peanuts, saute onions and green chillies to make a paste and temper it with mustard seeds and curry leaves . Another method is to add tempering to the paste of roasted peanuts , coconut and red chillies. Little tamarind is also added to the peanut chutney while grinding to enhance the taste.
5. Moong Dhal Sambar
Another healthier form of Sambar or lentil soup is the Moong Dhal Sambar. After chutney , sambhar is quite commonly preferred accompaniment for rava idli. It is a very light dish and easy to digest. So it is preferred over the regular toor dal sambar for kids and old people. You can make moong dal sambar with boiled moong dhal, onions and tomato . Then temper with garlic, red chillies, curry leaves and mustard seeds.

This is traditional South Indian dish and popular in Tamil Nadu. You can make with cabbage, moong dal and coconut. You must cook the Dal and the cabbage together and mash it well. Grind the coconut , green chilli and cumin seeds to a paste. Add them to the boiled dal and cabbage to make this beautiful curry finishing with curry leaves and mustard seeds tempering.

Rava idli with Thakkali Gotsu is the perfect combination and can be easily made with available ingredients in your kitchen. Being a working mom, i had always preferred to do this as it is very quick , simple and pretty easy. This is one of my favorite breakfast combo that i had tried when i was the beginner.
15. Vegetable Kurma
One of the healthiest sides as it is loaded with lots of vegetables. You can boil carrots, peas, potatoes, beans and any other vegetables of your choice. Then cook them with coconut and ginger garlic paste with all the spices added together. You can also serve this as the side for chapathi and parota.

This curry is very commonly prepared in Andhra and Telangana and makes a good side dish for Rava idli. You must saute the onions, tomatoes, brinjal, drumstick and add the tamarind juice.
