What are the ingredients needed for Instant Beetroot idli recipe
You must know all the ingredients needed to make the Beetroot idli and keep them ready. This way your cooking will be more efficient and have a cool kitchen experience. All ingredients are pretty much used in the daily cooking of Indian kitchens. So you will find this more easy and quick recipe to cook.
RICE IDLI BATTER – 2 Cups
QUANTITY OF INGREDIENTS for Beetroot Puree Mustard Seeds – ½ teaspoon Urad Dal (black lentils) – 1/2 teaspoon (optional) 1 Pinch of Turmeric 1 medium sized Beetroot 5-6 Curry Leaves Vegetable Oil – 2 Tablespoon 1 tbsp Coriander Leaves Salt to taste 1 Green Chili chopped |
Steps to prepare the Instant Beetroot Idli
To make this healthy and nutritious breakfast , please follow the simple step by step procedure. This is one of the recipes which needs very less preparation time and also very less cooking time as well. Since you use the microwave method to cook the idlis, it will not take much time. Once the beetroot puree is prepared, its takes hardly five minutes to cook the beetroot idlis
Transfer the rice idli batter to a bowl
Take a large bowl because you need to add the beetroot puree also. You can use the rice idli batter readily available at home.
Make sure the batter is not too thick or have any lumps. Add little water to adjust the consistency of the batter so that the batter is not thick.
Make sure you mix the batter well to ensure there are no lumps in the batter.
Boil the beetroot pieces
You must take one medium sized beetroot and clean it well with water. Cut off the edges of the beetroot.
Then you must use a vegetable peeler to take the skin off the beetroot. Now finely cut the beetroot into small pieces
Take a small vessel add the beetroot pieces. Add enough quantity of water to boil .
Turn on the stove and then boil the beetroot well
Make beetroot Puree
Now allow the boiled beetroot pieces to cool for sometime. Take one green chilli and finely chop it to small pieces.
Strain the water and transfer the boiled beetroot to a mixer along with the green chillie. Grind the beetroot to a smooth paste.
Do not add water to the mixer while grinding. When you add this puree to the idli batter, the consistency of the batter becomes runny if
there is excess water.
Mix the beetroot puree to idli batter
You must now add the beetroot puree to the large bowl of idli batter.
Mix it well with a ladle. You must ensure that beetroot puree is mixed well evenly in the idli batter.
Now the idli batter turns to a dark pink color.Once the idli is cooked at the end, beetroot puree will give a beautiful attractive color
Heat the tadka pan
Take a medium sized frying pan. Place it on the stove and turn on the gas. Keep it in medium flame always.
Add 2 tablespoon of vegetable oil. I always use virgin coconut oil or ground nut oil. You may use any vegetable oil.
Add the Mustard seeds , Urad Dal (Black lentils) and curry leaves
Once the oil is heated, add 1/2 teaspoon of mustard seeds and 1/2 teaspoon of urad dal.
Now add the curry leaves and leave them splutter in the oil and make sure the flame it not too high as it may burn the tempering ingredients.
Add salt to taste ,tumeric powder and Coriander leaves
Now add salt to taste and 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder along with coriander leaves and saute well.
Now tempering is ready to be added to the beetroot idli batter. Coriander leaves has many health benefits and also enhances the taste of
the idli.
Add tempering to the beetroot idli batter
Now add all the tempering ingredients to the beetroot idli batter and mix well ensure the tempering is spread evenly.
You must now use the beetroot idli batter to make the idlis.
Add water to the microwaveable idli cooker
Take the microwaveable idli cooker and add one cup of water to the bottom of the container.
Please ensure not to add too much of water in the idli cooker as the water may spill over the idli while it is cooking.
Grease the microwaveable Idli Moulds
You can use clarified butter or ghee, or any vegetable oils to the grease the microwaveable idli moulds.
Apply the grease to the microwaveable idli moulds and then keep them aside.
Pour the beetroot idli batter to the greased idli moulds
Once the idli moulds are greased well, pour the idli batter to the greased idli moulds.
Please ensure that you do not fill the idli mould to the brim.
After steaming, the idlis will rise, so, make sure you leave a little space for them to rise. Ideally, you should fill a little over three fourth of the idli mould.
Place the microwavable idli Moulds in the idli cooker
You must carefully place the idli stand after filling the batter into the idli cooker. You must sure that the cover the lid well.
If not the steam will escape from the cooker and the idli might not cook well. Place the idli cooker in the microwave
Set the timer for 5 mins to cook the beetroot idlis
You must now set the timer to cook the idlis for 5 minutes. After five minutes, you can use a fork or a knife to poke into the idlis to test if
the idlis are cooked well . The knife or the fork will come out clean with a well cooked idli.
Remove the idli stand from the idli maker
When you are sure that the idlis are cooked well. When the idlis are cool, scoop them off and take it in a bowl
Serve the delicious beetroot idlis with hot sambar
The delicious and nutritious beetroot idli is ready to eat with hot sambar as breakfast and can also be served for dinner. Many south Indians prefer to eat idlis for dinner too
If you dont have a microwave at home you can also use the idli cooker method to make Homemade beetroot idlis
The pressure cooker method takes additional five minutes to cook the idlis
Key tips to have a hassle free cooking of Instant Beetroot Idli
It is very important to following the tips and hacks for a wonderful cooking experience. You must follow the tips that i have always used to have an amazing cooking experience.
1. Do not set the timer of the microwave more than 5 mins or less than 4 mins
More than 5 minutes of cooking makes the idli harder. Less than 4 mins makes the idli under cooked. You must make cook the idli in between four to five minutes as it the varies for different microwaves.
2. Do not remove the microwave idli maker until it cools down
Once the idlis are ready, do not remove the idli maker immediately from the microwave oven. Let it cool down for few mins and then remove them. This way you will ensure that you dont burn your hands. If you want to remove it immediately, please use a cloth to hold the hot idli maker.
3. Add Chilies to enhance the taste
Slit the green chilli, then remove the seeds with a knife or teaspoon. Keep the chilli skin-side down and slice length ways into thin pieces. This way you can ensure that that the batter is not too spicy. This will also avoid your hands from burning sensation due to spiciness of the seeds from green chillies
4. Ensure Beetroot should be boiled well
You must make sure that the beetroot is boiled really well. Because the beetroot is added to the rice idli batter without being sauted. So boil well and grind it to paste to give good flavor to the idli
5. Curry leaves enhance the taste
It is important to add the curry leaves as it helps to enhance the taste. But it is always recommended to cooked to oil first and them add it to the rest of the ingredients while cooking. This is the best way to bring out the flavors
6. Wash your hands after cutting chillies
This is one of the most important tips i would like to share to ensure you have pleasant cooking . Please wash your hands immediately after cutting the green chillies. Otherwise your hands will start burning and doesn’t go off atleast 45 minutes.
