What are the ingredients for Homemade Chicken Kheema Idli
You need the usual and regular ingredients needed in making any non vegetarian dishes. However if you are making non vegetarian food for the first time, its more important that you understand the ingredients required and keep them handy.
RICE IDLI BATTER – 2 Cups
QUANTITY OF INGREDIENTS for Chicken Kheema 1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds 1 teaspoon Chilli powder 2 teaspoon coriander powder 4 or 5 garlic cloves 2 inches piece of ginger 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder Vegetable Oil – 2 Tablespoons 1 tbsp Coriander Leaves Salt to taste 1 Green Chili chopped onion – 1/2 cup chopped tomato – 1/2 cup chopped boneless chicken – 1 cup |
Steps to prepare the Homemade Chicken Kheema Idli
I am sure you will find this very easy and simple procedure. Once you have all the ingredients as listed ready it will not take time to prepare the Chicken Kheema. Since the chicken is minced it cooks faster and just adding the chicken kheema to the idli batter is all needed to make idlis. Let us get started with this beautiful recipe.
Cut the vegetables into small pieces
Take one medium sized onion and medium sized tomato. Clean them with water well.
Chop them into as fine pieces as possible. Then slit a green chilli and slit it too into fine pieces.
Prepare the ginger garlic paste
Take 5 to 6 garlic cloves and peel off the skin using a knife.
Chop the ginger into small pieces. Grind the ginger and garlic to a paste.
Mince the chicken
Take one cup of boneless chicken and add it to the grinder. Grind the meat so that it gets minced. Now transfer it to a small bowl
Place the frying pan on stove
Take a frying pan and place it on the stove. Keep the flame in the medium heat. You must ensure that the flame is not too high.
It is always important to maintain the medium heat as, too much heat will burn the food,
Add oil and heat
You can add two table spoon of any vegetable oil. I prefer to use coconut oil while you can add any oil of your choice.
Minced chicken meat itself has some fats which would release some fatty oil after cooking. So it is enough to add two tablespoons of oil
Add fennel seeds , Onion and green Chilies
When the oil is hot enough, You must now add the fennel seed and saute. Fennel seeds imparts nice aroma to the chicken.
Add some onions and saute them until it is slightly brown in color. Its add to the finely chopped green chillies. Saute them for few secs.
Add ginger paste and saute well
You must now add the ginger garlic paste to the fried onions and chillies. Saute them well for atleast two minutes until the raw smell is gone.
Add Tomatoes and saute well
Then add the finely chopped tomatoes. Mix them well along with the other ingredients in the pan. After a minute the mix will become slightly juicy after you add the tomatoes.
Add all the spices to the pan
It is time to add all the spices. Add a 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder, 1 teaspoon of chilli powder and 2 teaspoon of coriander powder and saute them well
Mix them well and add salt so that the vegetables get cooked faster.
Add minced Chicken and saute well.
Now the vegetables are cooked quite well and you must now add the minced chicken.
Mix them well with the rest of the ingredients so that it gets coated well with the Chicken.
Close the lid and cook for 5 mins
Close the lid and keep the flame low to cook the chicken kheema. Since the meat is minced. it will be get cooked faster.
Add the coriander leaves
Once the chicken keema is cooked well, add the finely chopped coriander leaves and mix well.
Make sure the coriander leaves very fine to that it gets mixed well.
Take the idli batter to a large bowl
You must keep the rice idli batter ready to be make the chicken kheema idli. Transfer the rice idli batter to a large bowl
If you find the idli batter thick, you can add little water to adjust the consistency of the batter.
You must make sure that the batter is not too thick or too runny and just at the right consistency
Add water to the idli cooker
Take the stainless steel idli cooker and add one cup of water to the bottom of the cooker.
Dont add too much of water in the idli cooker as the water may boil over the idli while it is cooking
Grease the stainless steel Idli Moulds
You can use clarified butter or ghee, or any vegetable oils to the grease the stainless idli moulds.
Apply the grease or pour few drops of oil in the moulds , then spread the oil to the moulds.
Use ladle to add idli batter to the greased moulds
You must now use the ladle to take the idli batter and slowly fill the greased idli moulds.
Please ensure that you do not fill the idli mould to the brim. After steaming, the idlis will rise, so, make sure you leave a little space for
them to rise. Ideally, you should fill a little over three fourth of the idli mould.
Add the Chicken Kheema on the idli
After you pour the idli batter to the moulds , now take the chicken kheema. Place the kheema on top of the idli batter in each mould.
Try to keep the kheema as centre as possible in the moulds.
Place the stainless steel Idli moulds in the idli cooker
You must carefully place the idli stand after filling the batter into the idli cooker.
Place the idli cooker on the stove and turn on the stove
Cook the chicken kheema idlis for ten mins
Cook the idlis for altleast ten minutes.
You must sure that the cover the lid well. If not the steam will escape from the cooker and the idli might not cook well
Make sure idli is cooked well
After ten minutes, you can use a knife or fork to poke into the idlis to check if they are cooked well.
With a well cooked idli, the knife or the fork will come out clean.
Remove the stainless steel Idli moulds
When you are sure that the idlis are cooked well. Allow it to cool for sometime otherwise you will burn your hands while removing the idlis.
When the idlis are cool, remove them and take it in a bowl
